Are the walls of your bathing area Tile or Fiberglass? We can also install in drywall, brick and stone to cover the other areas of your home where you might need some additional safety measures.

Are All Grab Bars Installed in the Same Location?

Not Necessarily is the short answer.

Each installation that we do is guided by what will work best for the individual.

We recommend installing at least 2 Grab Bars in each bathing area. The first is installed vertically at the point where you would enter the tub or shower. The second one is typically installed horizontally on the long wall of the bathing area. The vertical one is positioned to provide a safe and comfortable reach to the Grab Bar while keeping in mind the difference in floor height between the bathroom and the floor of the shower/tub. The horizontal one is placed between 33″ – 36″ off the floor of the bathing area. This keeps it near your waist while you are under the shower head getting wet as well as at your waist when you have moved away from the water to get soapy. The exception to this is if the individual is currently, and will always be, using a bath bench/chair/stool for their bathing needs. In which case we might want to install the one on the long wall on a diagonal rising up towards the shower head. However, the final decision is based on guidance from the Home Health professionals and the needs of the client.

Grab Bars Near Toilets

Installing Grab Bars near toilets is where it is important to pay attention to not only what wall space is available but what method will work best for the client. Sometimes we install them horizontally because pushing down is where the person has their greatest strength. Other times installing them on a diagonal works best for someone whose grip strength allows them to pull themselves up.

We do not install them into cabinets as the cabinets are not designed to hold up to that type of pressure nor do we install them in glass shower doors or surrounds. Again, the glass is not designed to handle that type of force.
